Product: Rug Tufting Glue (pack sizes 1 l, 3× 1 l, 12× 1 l)
Issued and maintained by: tufty.eu · info@tufty.eu · +420 736 264 977
Version: 1.0 · Date of issue: 26 August 2026
1. Description and intended use
A water-based dispersion glue designed to lock the yarn of tufted rugs in place and to bond the secondary backing cloth to the back of the rug. It also bonds paper, cardboard, textiles, leather and wood reliably. A strong bond requires that at least one of the bonded materials absorbs moisture – with tufted rugs, both the yarn and the tufting cloth meet this condition.
Use the glue in its original consistency. Diluting it with water or modifying it in any other way is not recommended – it weakens the bond.
2. Classification and safety information
The mixture is not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures. It requires no hazard pictograms or signal words.
It contains preservatives (2,2-dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide; a 3:1 mixture of 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one) that may cause an allergic reaction (EUH208). Repeated contact may irritate the skin; the irritation heals without lasting effects.
While working, we recommend: protective gloves, applying the glue with a spreader or spatula (not bare hands), a ventilated room, and avoiding contact with the eyes. Keep out of reach of children.
3. Physical and chemical properties
| Physical state | viscous liquid |

| Melting / freezing point | 0 °C |
| Flammability / explosivity | non-flammable, non-explosive |
| Decomposition temperature | 150 °C |
| Solubility | insoluble in water (dried layer); dissolves in ethanol and acetone |
| Shelf life | 12 months in the closed original container |
| Coverage | 350–500 g/m² on smooth surfaces; for a tufted rug, plan on approx. 1 litre per 1 m² (the cloth and yarn absorb the glue) |
4. First aid
- Skin contact: wash with warm water and soap.
- Eye contact: rinse with plenty of clean water.
- If swallowed: drink a small amount of clean water at room temperature (up to 0.2 l for an adult). Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical attention if symptoms occur.
- If inhaled: move to fresh air. If symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath persist, seek medical attention.
In case of a medical emergency, contact your national poison information centre or a doctor.
5. Storage
Store in the original, closed and undamaged containers at 5 °C to 40 °C, away from direct sunlight. Protect from frost – freezing damages the dispersion irreversibly. Close opened containers carefully after each use so the glue does not dry out or get contaminated.
6. Accidental spillage
Contain the spilled glue and wipe it up while it is still liquid – it can then be reused or disposed of as waste. Rinse the surface and any tools with water. Do not let larger amounts enter drains, groundwater or surface water.
7. Stability and reactivity
Under normal conditions of use and storage, the glue is stable and non-reactive. Thermal degradation occurs above 150 °C. Do not store mixed with other materials.
8. Ecological information and disposal
The dried layer is classified as naturally biodegradable in soil – complete decomposition takes 12 to 18 months. The glue does not accumulate in organisms. Do not pour undiluted liquid residues into drains – they can strain the treatment process at wastewater plants.
Disposal of residues: unused product belongs in waste adhesive collection (waste catalogue code 08 04 10); dried residues can be disposed of as regular waste. Packaging: rinse emptied containers and hand them in for plastic recycling (15 01 02).
9. Transport
The product is not subject to regulations on the transport of dangerous goods (ADR/RID/IMDG). It is transported in its original containers, protected from damage and frost.
