We stock several colours in 50 g balls with about 60 m per ball. The material is milk cotton with a luminous strand running through it, so it handles exactly like regular tufting yarn (it is also sold as glow in the dark wool) and works just as well for crochet and knitting. It is at its best as a detail in an otherwise ordinary piece: stars or an outline on a tufted rug for a child's room, the eyes of a tufted animal, small details on a cushion or an amigurumi.
How glow in the dark yarn works
The strand contains a luminous pigment that “stores” light and releases it slowly afterwards. It is not a reflective material and it is not designed to fluoresce under black light – once charged, it glows in the dark without an additional light source.
Charging is quick: a few seconds by a window is enough for the glow to be visible. The longer the yarn is exposed to light, the longer it glows. After ten minutes by a window the glow starts strong and then fades gradually – count on an effect for the evening, not for the whole night.
Every colour glows green
The luminous strand is green, whatever colour the yarn is by day. White glows brightest – a clean green that no base colour dims. The coloured yarns (neon green, blue, orange) glow more softly and much like one another, each with a slight tint of its own – but still green, not blue and not orange. Better to know up front: if the glow is what matters most, go for white.

Glow in the dark yarn for tufting
The yarn is tested for tufting – at about 3 mm it matches regular tufting yarn, so it behaves in the gun exactly like our other yarn and works for both cut and loop pile. Choose the number of strands fed into the gun as you would for yarn of a similar weight, and tuft the glowing element after the base in regular yarn so the outline lands exactly where you want it.

What it is for
Glow in the dark yarn is not meant for a whole rug (and would not be cheap that way); it shows its effect as an accent next to regular tufting yarn – stars, a moon, character eyes, letter outlines or a line around the edge of the rug. It works just as well with a hook or needles, where it handles like any other yarn of this weight.
