Water-based dispersion rug tufting glue that locks every stitch firmly into your tufting cloth and reliably bonds the secondary cloth. Once dry, it forms an elastic cream-coloured layer: the rug can be rolled, bent and washed. And why do we dare to claim it lasts for years? We don’t sell this glue blind – it’s the same type of dispersion glue we used on our own rugs back when we tufted ourselves. We still hold those rugs in our hands today: after five years the layer is still elastic, with no crumbling or cracking. That’s exactly why we had it filled under our own brand. One litre covers roughly 1 m² of rug – more if you apply it carefully.
Bonds like latex glue for tufting. Costs half.
Latex glues for rugs typically cost €12–16 per litre – and they don’t do anything extra for it. This dispersion glue locks the fibres just as firmly, stays just as elastic after drying, and costs about half. In quality it matches the construction-grade floor adhesives used for gluing carpets, PVC and linoleum.

How to apply the glue
- Keep the rug stretched on the frame. Apply the glue undiluted in one continuous layer – with a spreader or a piece of stiff cardboard. The spreader just needs washing with water afterwards.
- Spread gently, without heavy pressure. You’ll get the best bond with strokes along or across the stitching direction, so the glue flows into the gaps between stitches.
- Make sure no dry spots remain – the layer should be continuous and the cloth lightly soaked. Coat the fabric overhangs around the rug as well.
- Once fully dry, trim the edges – or fold them onto the back and glue them down (hem them).
What to avoid
Heavy pressure on the spreader
Pressing hard with the edge of the spreader, especially near the rug’s edges, can pull out loops of yarn. If it happens, let the rug dry and rethread the yarn in that spot with a threading needle, then trim the excess.
Closed rooms without ventilation
The glue has a noticeable smell while drying. Ventilate at least with a tilted window; a drying rug can also be left on a balcony. The smell fades quickly once dry.
First attempt on a finished rug
Practise applying the glue on a scrap of cloth with yarn first. You’ll get a feel for the consistency, pressure and coverage before working on a rug that matters.
Contact bonding the secondary cloth — a technique for experienced tufters
Experienced tufters can bond the secondary cloth using the contact method: apply a thin layer of glue to both the back of the rug and the secondary cloth, let it set for a few minutes (depending on layer thickness – the glue should be tacky to the touch but not stringy), then carefully position the cloth and press it down with a roller. The bond holds immediately and you skip working with spray adhesive. It is, however, more demanding – if positioned inaccurately, the cloth can wrinkle. Less experienced tufters should keep using spray adhesive for the secondary cloth, and try the contact technique on a sample first.
Drying — test by touch
In summer sun a rug can be dry within a few hours; in cold and damp conditions it takes considerably longer. The reliable test: the glue is dry, firm yet elastic – then the rug can come off the frame. If it sticks to your hand, wait.
Washing and care
Once fully cured, the rug survives a gentle quick machine cycle at 30 °C – we’ve tested it. A continuous glue layer is the condition; steam cleaning is the gentler option. Edges hemmed with a hot glue gun may need regluing after washing. Fresh glue washes off with plain water.
Shipping in cold months: do not order to outdoor parcel lockers.
The glue is a water dispersion and frost damages it irreversibly. The parcel is protected during transport, but in an outdoor locker it can freeze overnight – we accept no liability for orders shipped this way. Choose home delivery or a staffed pickup point.
FAQ
How much glue will I need?
Roughly 1 l per 1 m² of rug; less with careful application. More absorbent monks cloth uses more than polyester.
Does every rug need a secondary cloth?
A wall-hung rug doesn’t – fixing the fibres with glue is enough. A floor rug should be finished completely, including secondary and anti-slip cloth.
When can I wash the rug for the first time?
Only after the glue has fully cured. For routine care we recommend steam cleaning; a rug with a sufficient glue layer survives a gentle machine cycle.
Is the glue safe?
It is not classified as hazardous and carries no hazard symbols. It contains preservatives that may cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals (EUH208) – we recommend gloves and applying with a spreader. Keep out of reach of children. Full details in the technical data sheet.
